On Location - Virginia Fall

.

Fall here in Wake Forest is pretty in it's own way, but it's not as pretty as the falls we enjoyed in WI. The leaves here turn mostly yellow and brown, and we miss the oranges and reds. This week, Phil & I decided to take a family day trip into the mountains of Virginia.

We live 3 hours from the Blue Ridge Parkway, which is gorgeous in any season. Phil and I spent our anniversary weekend there this past summer, so we already had a list of places we wanted to explore with the boys. The weatherman was predicting rain in the morning and then clear. As we began our trip mid-morning it was cloudy and a short while later it was pouring. We discussed turning around and trying again next week, but decided to keep on going. It rained nearly the whole drive, then literally 5 minutes away from where we would get onto the Parkway, it cleared and the sun came out. By the time we had eaten our lunch, things had dried out a bit and we started our trip up the Parkway. It was gorgeous! As I look back over my pictures, they're pretty but they don't do justice to the way the sunlight turned those leaves into jewels. I was close to tears over and over at the breathtaking beauty of our Creator in His creation!

Wow, Rachel, those pictures are breathtaking. Unfortunately, our WI fall has not been as beautiful as years past. I'm not sure why, but the trees didn't seem to turn at the same time and some trees even on our street that usually turn bright red went from green to brown this year. I'm sure there is an explanation, maybe because of our mild fall or something, but this year has been a disappointment. Glad you got to enjoy it by you!
