Taking Responsibility for My Sin - Object Lesson

14 And he called the people to him again and said to them, "Hear me, all of you, and understand: 15 There is nothing outside a person that by going into him can defile him, but the things that come out of a person are what defile him. . .18... Do you not see that whatever goes into a person from outside cannot defile him, 19 since it enters not his heart but his stomach, and is expelled?"... 20 And he said, "What comes out of a person is what defiles him. 21 For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft,murder, adultery, 22 coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. 23 All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person." {from Mark 7}

Needed:
- a clear glass {I used a glass on a stem so things would a bit more on eye-level}
*
- dark soda
*
- plastic buttons
*
*
"The glass represents your heart.
*
The soda represents your circumstances.
*
The buttons represent sins."
*
*
*

*
*
Pour several inches of dark soda into the glass.
*
*
Drop the buttons one by one into the soda:
'This is the time you lied; this is the time you got angry at your brother; this is the time you were un-thankful and discontent with what you had."
*
The buttons will sink to the bottom of the glass for just a few seconds and then rise to float on the top of the soda.
*
*
*

*
*
"Did the soda put the buttons in the glass?
No. The buttons were already there.
The soda just made the buttons rise to the top so we could see them.
*
*
*

*
*
The things that happen around you and to you - your circumstances - don't put the sin in your heart. They just push the sin that is already in your heart out where we can see it. The things that happen to you don't make you sin. You sin because the sin is already in your heart."

NOTE: I found the idea for this object lesson here and added my own application
