Chosen

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. - from Ephesians 1

Our friends, {A&V} have been in the process of adopting a son since long before we met them. They have proudly passed around pictures of him, chosen a new name for him, and longed to hug him. As I have gotten to know them and talked with them, I have been reminded again and again of how their adoption journey so beautifully illustrates what God has done for me.

I am overwhelmed by the knowledge that God chose me to be his daughter!

How long ago he planned to make me part of his family.

So much work was done to accomplish the adoption --before I was even aware that He existed.

How willingly he paid the price to make me his own.

Recently they traveled to Ethiopia, suitcases full of toddler-sized clothes, hopes and excitement, to claim their son. As much as they loved him, he was not at all sure about them at first! It took him a while to warm up to them, and even now, there will likely be some difficult days ahead. He is too young to understand what an amazing gift he has been given!

How blind I can be to the riches that are mine because God chose set his love on me!

How unaware - even ungrateful - I can be of my Abba's offer of an inexhaustible supply of His love and his promises to meet every need that I have.

Today, we gathered at the airport with other Open Door families, to welcome {A&V} and their toddler son home.

He is adorable! Full of shy smiles and wiggles after his long trip.
Carried by beaming near-stranger parents

and greeted by an excited brother and sister who he has yet to get to know.

What a blessed little guy he is!

And I too, blessed beyond measure, "praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on (me) who belong to his dear Son.

He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased (my) freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave (my) sins.

He has showered his kindness on (me). . . ." - Ephesians 1: 6-8
